Turn your back on the world, stick your head in the sand
Does your faith dull the shame like a medicine
When the truth’s so certain, there’s nothing to hear
What’s filling your head with that cold, cold fear
Moses brought the Tablets, yeah
Jesus taught the Truth,
But what He said must’ve been misread
What the hell are you gonna do
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide (x2)
Sanctimonious smile at the top of your pile
So f**k the greater good
Lookin’ down upon who you been steppin’ on
They wouldn’t save you if they could
Judgment’s gonna get ya
Lemme tell you what I think
That heart of stone you proudly own
Is gonna weigh you down and sink
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide (x4)
Point your finger it’s all the same
Turn around you got no one to blame
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide
Brothers and sisters of the human experience
We gather here on the precipice of a new era.
We gather in spite of those who oppress us
Through greed, through hate, through fear,
And the do it all under the banner of the Almighty God.
A God who preaches love and compassion,
Of being in service to your fellow man.
I see your anger. And I hear their lies.
But I can feel it coming, the righteous fire,
that comes to cleanse the world of false prophets and selfishness.
Brothers and sisters,
We stand on the brink of a brighter tomorrow,
But only if we’ll take it.
Back in my mind if I turn my head
I can almost make it out
That high water line the Lord left behind
When last He cast His doubt
Your hollow praise won’t help you here brother
Now the end is nigh
So say your prayers, and hold your breath
‘cause here comes the wave and it’s Ten miles high
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide (x2)
Point your finger it’s all the same
Turn around got no one to blame
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide
Point your finger it’s all the same
Turn around got no one to blame
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide
(Good lord)
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide
(Good lord)
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide
Good Lord! It’s time to raise the tide.

Got a restless girl she ain’t afraid to trip
The ghost of a cigarette restin’ on her lips
She said “I say what I mean and I mean what I say
So don’t take my words to lead yourself astray”
“well you want this lovebird kinda thing
But I see myself as more a rolling stone
You think it’s safe beneath your wing
But I’m better being on my own”
My sweet Virginia, my sweet Virginia
Hold me close, the Holy Ghost
For all I know, she won’t wait long for me
My sweet Virginia
I watch her wrapped up in a dream
In which I fear she flees from me
She wakes and starts to pack her things
Like something from a sappy movie scene
“Well you asked me once if this could last
And I hate to tell you it’s already passed
It’s Like the winding river flows,
I Like to stay but I love to go.”
My sweet Virginia, my sweet Virginia
Hold me close, The Holy Ghost
For all I know, she won’t wait long for me
My sweet Virginia
Baby don’t you roll me
There ain’t no cause to tremble at my feet
I feel you itchin’ to leave this town
Pull them stakes up out the ground
But please just won’t you leave them where you found them
Sweet Virginia, sweet Virginia
Hold me close, The Holy Ghost
For all I know, she won’t wait long for me
My sweet Virginia
My sweet Virginia, my sweet Virginia
Hold me close, The Holy Ghost
For all I know, she won’t wait long for me
My sweet Virginia, oh my sweet Virginia, oh my sweet Virginia
Had a restless girl, she’s gone upon her way

There’s something evil lurking in the shadows
Waiting for us just around the bend
Just because you started down this lonely road
Doesn’t mean you’ll ever see the end
It’s a wind that blows and no way you can stop it
A gale that tears and rips across the seas
Measuring all the lands before it
To spread its bony fingers over me
I wish we could’ve seen it coming
I wish that there were any other way
But when Death grabs her lute, and softly starts strumming
Just pray you get to see another day
The tune she plays is thrumming up my eardrum
It’s threatening to burrow deep inside
Once you start to humming, there’s nothing you can do
When Death’s around there’s nowhere you can hide
Sing along, she’s bellowing her tune
Conjured clouds to dim the brightest moon
Step in line and sway to the somber beat
And soon enough she’ll sweep you off your feet
Some say she’s getting ready for her opus
Her melody sustains the darkest night
Yet I can hear it linger come the morning
And echo ever upward to the light.

I got that feeling in my core again
Like I’m ‘bout to jump out of my skin
I’m a high noon shadow strained for purchase
Hey there stranger, glad to be of service.
Your eyes, they took on something of a shine
Sent shivers and shakes up and down my spine
Cheshire grin on a dull black veil
Big as the moon, and just as pale
It’s a feeling as heavy as the wind that blows
Like trying to stand up in a tornado
Looking for a body, searching for souls
Praying that the darkness don’t swallow you whole
I’m flaked and frayed where smooth gives way to rough
Caught under the wheel of indifferent stars above
Time and around will make you tough
A few trips through will wisen you up
Sharp words fall from your lips like silken lies
Like barb wire used to make the tie that binds
Boot heels click a sound out of time
A rhythm to drive you out your mind
I’m a rip-cord baby, wound up now watch me go
I’m a two-stroke fireball raring to explode
I’m the first little patter on the road
A thunderhead bound for overload
